Costa Rica emerging as medical tourism destination

10-Apr-2007

Costa Rica is fast becoming a hot location for patients in search of high-quality cut-price medical care, according to a report released today.

The research, conducted by Costa Vista Land (CVL), portrays the central American nation's healthcare system as an innovative partnership between private and state healthcare providers.

CVL claims that treatment in Costa Rica often costs a tenth typical western prices and yet, at the same time, medical standards remain high.

Brad Hogan, the CVL president, described the country as "an international Mecca for individuals who want high-quality medical care" at a lower price.

Costa Rica possesses a "phenomenal medical edge", according to Mr Hogan.

British hospitals have reportedly imported thousands of doctors and nurses from the developing world over the past few years.

It seems that many British patients are taking a trip in the opposite direction.
