Singapore offers a 'world-class healthcare system'

26-Mar-2008

Singapore has long been regarded by many as Asia's business leader, but it is also leading the way in medical tourism.

The tiny country has been considered a medical tourism destination for years and has built its reputation on the back of its excellent healthcare system, attracting over 300,000 medical tourists a year.

Dr Jason Yap, healthcare services director at the Singapore Tourism Board, told the Manila Times: "International patients come to Singapore for many reasons, like heart and brain surgery, health screening and sometimes cancer treatment."

When pressed for the reason for Singapore's popularity as a destination for patients seeking treatment abroad, Dr Yap commented: "Because we assure them of [a] world-class healthcare system that focuses on safety and excellence."

Singapore offers many of the most advanced medical treatments in the world, including uncommon procedures such as stem cell transplants which few other nations can provide.
