Da Vinci SP, developed by American company Intuitive Surgical, has three surgical instruments mounted on one robot arm and a camera tip that all fold in three steps like elbow-wrist-finger joints. This allows doctors to perform a surgery on a narrow and deep area through a 2.5 cm single-sided incision and secures 360-degree vision for sophisticated surgeries.
In addition, this state-of-the-art instrument minimizes nerve injury after surgery, reducing sexual and urinary dysfunction and helps with rapid recovery.
The Colorectal Cancer Center plans to use da Vinci SP for colorectal and rectal cancer surgery, starting with the first surgery performed by Professor Yun, Seong Hyeon of Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
