Australian IVF centre to cater for medical tourists

22-Sep-2008

Fertility specialists in Australia are soon to open a five-star luxury resort which will offer infertility treatment for overseas tourists.

The Cairns Fertility Centre in Western Australia will specialise in assisted reproduction and IVF procedures and should help to boost Australia's medical tourism industry, Reuters reports.

In addition to fertility services, guests will be able to stay in a luxury hotel apartment with a swimming pool, gym, spa, restaurants and barbeque area.

The medical facilities will also be staffed by cosmetic surgeons, beauty therapists and counsellors.

Financial director Doug Yek told Reuters that the clinic, which is ideally located for excursions to the Great Barrier Reef, will be "the biggest in the world offering complementary services".

He said that the clinic wants to take infertility treatment "up to the next level by providing services that minimise stress, which can play a big part in the outcome of the treatment".

Figures suggest that at least 20 to 25 per cent of couples of reproductive age are affected by infertility.
