Hungary proves a hit for dental treatment

18-Sep-2007

A growing number of British people are recognising the benefits of travelling to Europe for private dental treatment amid the ongoing NHS dentistry crisis.

The recent introduction of a new dental contract has led many dentists to abandon the NHS and take up private dentistry, but this has led to a shortage of affordable NHS dentists.

Joseph Kerr, a 40-year-old from Rainham in Kent, revealed that he made the decision to seek treatment abroad as a result of this lack of dentists, as well as because of the rising costs of dental work in the UK.

Mr Kerr told the Kent News that he went to Budapest - the capital of Hungary  - over the summer to have four crowns and some root canal work.

"I treated it like a holiday and visited all the local tourist sites. And I saved money," he revealed.

Hungary is proving particularly popular among dental tourists, with costs frequently as low as 30 per cent of private dental costs in the UK.

It is also rich in history and culture, providing an ideal destination for a short break either before or after dental treatment.
