The UK and India are planning greater cooperation in private healthcare provision, as Britain explores opportunities for partnership.
A team of healthcare professionals from the UK came to India to meet with hospital officials in an Exploring Healthcare Opportunities for Partnership conference.
Discussing the challenges facing both healthcare organisations, delegates agreed that British healthcare authorities could benefit from the low cost of operating abroad.
And Indian organisations would welcome new technology and expertise from their European partners.
Dr Rob Elles, the president of the British Society for Human Genetics told The Statesman that there could be more cooperation between the two countries in future.
"The core idea of this project is that the systems and components of integrated UK genetic services are exportable and that genetic services in India developed through a new UK/India joint venture could generate income to benefit public and private investors," he explained.
Three India companies are currently talking to hospitals in the UK about opening branches or beginning treatments.
Escorts-Fortis Hospital, the Apollo Group and Metropolis Health Services have all expressed interest in opening some operations in the UK.
