60% of Cyprus private clinics involved in medical tourism

26-Mar-2007

Cyprus is one of many nations benefiting from the potential of medical tourism, with around six in ten of the island's private clinics believed to treat patients from overseas.

According to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), around half of some private clinics' business involves foreign patients, with cosmetic surgery being a particularly popular choice among tourists seeking treatment abroad.

Delegates from 60 countries are currently descending on Limassol for a three-day conference, the second ever World Health Tourism Congress, the Cyprus Mail reports.

CTO official Athena Theodorou told the newspaper: "This is very important for Cyprus. It is putting Cyprus on the map as a medical tourism destination."

Ms Theodorou added that private dentistry is also very popular with medical tourists and revealed that dental surgery can be "half the price it is in the UK and that includes the cost of the ticket here and the holiday costs".

Cyprus is an ideal location for medical tourism, offering a combination of quality treatment, affordable prices and day-after-day sunshine throughout the year - all just a short flight away from the UK.
