Stretched availability of NHS dental treatment is leading many people to seek private treatment, but the cost of UK treatment can be prohibitive for many.
A growing number are looking further afield for their dental treatment and Croatia, a country once torn apart by war, has propelled itself to the forefront of the medical tourism market, particularly in the field of dentistry.
Kresimir Doblanovic, a Croatian dentist who recently began marketing his services to international clients, told the BBC that he had recognised the potential for providing high quality dental services to foreign nationals, in particular those from Britain.
"We have the same level of expertise as our colleagues in Britain, but almost 80 per cent of people there cannot afford the highest level service," the Zagreb-based dentist revealed.
"The margin is so big that it pays off to our patients to fly from Britain, stay in Croatia for a week and get their teeth done here."
The dentist even plans to open a second clinic on the Adriatic Sea so that patients can enjoy the beautiful surroundings during their stay.
"Many patients have asked me whether I have an office on the Adriatic coast, because they want to come with their families and combine dental with the usual kind of tourism," Mr Doblanovic told the BBC.
"That's why right now I am finishing up plans [for] opening my second office on the seaside."
