Genetic testing in 48 hours: no waiting time and no need to cryopreserve the embryo

Faster, cheaper and equally effective: Institut Marquès offers patients EXPRESS PGT, the study of all embryo chromosomes in just 48 hours, so that it is not necessary to cryopreserve them. Using the latest techniques in genetic testing, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), we carry out the embryo biopsy at its 3rd day of life. In this way, it is possible to transfer the embryo into the mother’s uterus just two days later, without having to cryopreserve it, once it reaches the blastocyst stage (5th day of life).

 

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) results are equally effective, independent from the day when the embryo biopsy is carried out, according to a study that we presented with great success at the 24th Conference of the French Federation for Reproductive Studies (FFER), held in Paris. In addition, the “mosaic embryo” issue is avoided. Up to date most of centres carry out this test when the embryo is already 5 days old, so it is compulsory to freeze it in order to wait for the results, which take several weeks. The preimplantational genetic testing allows analysing the genetic or chromosomal content of the embryos obtained after an In Vitro Fertilisation and to transfer only those that do not present any abnormality, hence have better chances to implant. It also allows the transfer of healthy embryos for couples that have some inherited diseases.  

 

PGT is specially recommended for patients with infertility problems due to: female age over 37 years old, recurrent miscarriages, repeated failures in IVF cycles or due to a male factor. It is also advisable for those couples that, next to the morphologically nice embryos, want chromosomally healthy embryos in order to avoid implantation failures, miscarriages or chromosome alterations.
