A new report has concluded that India is an attractive destination for patients seeking medical treatment abroad.
The report, which was collated by India's Planning Commission, noted that India is in a good position to offer a combination of cost-competitive medical treatment and state-of-the-art technology.
The report authors wrote: "What is significant is that the hospitals established by the private corporate players are of world class.
"They have not only the latest medical technological facilities but also the services of Indian doctors and nurses with a high degree of proficiency."
Many of India's doctors have previously trained and worked in the UK and the nation now offers some of the best medical treatment in the world.
The report also noted that patients visiting India can benefit from the nation's ayurveda system of healthcare.
"A large number of tourists, both domestic and foreign, undergo treatment under ayurveda not only for improving their fitness and wellbeing but also for curing many types of chronic diseases," the report said.
