A new survey has found that 1.29 million British people have had dental treatment abroad since 2003 because of the cost savings.
Dentale, a newly launched dental implant clinic, surveyed over 1,000 British adults between the ages of 16 and 64 and found that one in seven believe the state of their teeth to be poor or extremely poor.
Researchers found that 11.3 million people have not been to a dentist in the past two years because they cannot afford to visit one, and 55 per cent of 16 to 64-year-olds have at least one missing tooth.
Jason Buglass, a UK qualified dentist at Dentale, described the findings as "absolutely shocking".
"Some people have decided to go abroad for dental treatment because it can be much cheaper," he revealed.
"Our research shows that since 2003, 1.29 million Brits aged 16 to 64 have had dental treatment outside of the UK because it was cheaper."
The survey also found that people in Scotland and the Midlands tend to be the most likely to describe the condition of their teeth as poor.
