New book highlights benefits of medical tourism

 10-Apr-2007

Medical tourism helps to increase patient choice and offers value for money, claims a new book.

The new guidebook to medical tourism entitled Patients Beyond Borders focuses on the number of benefits that seeking treatment abroad can bring as well as providing advice on how to ensure that you chose a reliable and safe health care provider.

A wide range of treatments ranging from cosmetic surgery to hip replacement and IVF in 22 different countries are examined in the book written by Josef Woodman following three years of research into the subject.

"Medical tourism is not about fun in the sun; it is part of a global shift in healthcare services and smart...health consumers are taking advantage of the high quality care and lower costs waiting for them overseas," explained Mr Woodman.

In some cases patients can save up to 75 per cent on treatment costs and do not have to endure long waiting times for their surgery.
