Dentists in the Philippines : Accreditation and qualifications

Phillipines - modern building
Many Filipino doctors receive training in the US and medical/nursing skills in the Philippines are based on the US system so you can expect staff to be very competent.  It takes between six and seven years to become a dentist in the Philippines involving two years preparatory and four years on the dentistry program.  To become a specialist, graduates study for a further two years in their chosen field.  Dentists may choose to study in the US or Japan, or study in the Philippines at the College of Dentistry within Manila Central University (MCU).  After qualifying students are given the initials DMD or DDM for Doctor of Dental Medicine and DDS for Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Professional bodies/organizations

The Philippine Dental Association (PDA) is the biggest association for professional dentists in the Philippines and is the national dental organisation.  By law dentists must be a member of this body in order to practice dentistry in the Philippines and the PDA links with Filipino Dentists, which is the web portal for Filipino dentists.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) is the agency of the Philippine government which regulates professionals in the Philippines and dentists are unable to practice without a professional licence issued by the PRC.  All clinics and hospital are monitored by the Department of Health of the Philippines
