After 8 years of disappointment and unsuccessful IVF treatment at three clinics, a couple are delighted to become parents at last following egg donation at Barcelona IVF in Spain.

“Thanks to Dr Raul Olivares and team at Barcelona IVF, we have finally become parents. A dream we were about to give up on. A true miracle after years of heartache.

We had spent 8 years battling infertility at 3 different clinics in the UK and Italy without success. Drained both physically and emotionally, we took the hard decision to let go of my genetic input and try with donor eggs, as suggested would be the next step by various physicians. Not an easy decision to reach, at the time it seemed quite surreal. We took a year off fertility treatment, as we were tired: tired of waiting, tired of fighting and tired of hoping. We took advantage of this year to research the option of donor eggs. If we were going to invest in one final attempt, then I wanted to ensure we were in the best possible hands. There was too much at stake now. Too many failed IVF attempts behind us as we faced a future of uncertainty.

Following extensive research and contact with various other clinics, we chose Barcelona IVF and, more specifically, Dr Raul Olivares. From the outset, I knew we had made the right decision. They offered us a free consultation via Skype as a first contact and Dr Olivares instantly came across as extremely competent, knowledgeable and a true expert in the field. He also had a very warm, calm and patient demeanour, all of which helped us tremendously along the journey. Just what we needed: someone we felt we could trust, someone who seemed to genuinely care about our plight and someone who could give us hope once again. Until then, I felt we had always received a “standard protocol” of care from past clinics, however, with Barcelona IVF the treatment plan was fully tailored to our own specific medical case and wishes. We were assigned a patient assistant, Loretta, who not only coordinated everything efficiently but also offered us emotional support. She was like a good friend to me throughout the course of the treatment. Nothing was ever too much trouble, I inundated both Loretta and Dr Olivares with a million questions and doubts along the way and they were both always on hand to answer me directly or reassure us.

The actual egg donor treatment was not as intense, nor as physically demanding, as a fresh cycle of IVF. We only made two visits to the clinic, one was for us to meet the team and ensure it was the right clinic for us, and then second time was when we actually went for the embryo transfer.

Incredibly, it worked first time with donor eggs. I fell pregnant. I couldn’t believe it, and honestly, as I sit here with my beautiful baby boy sleeping next to me, I still don’t believe it.

Barcelona IVF gave us hope at a time when we thought it was over for us. My only regret is that we didn’t contact Barcelona IVF earlier on in our journey.
