Chinese tourists rush came to Taiwan for health check-up drew Japanese press’ attention

29-Oct-2009

It’s been a year since Taiwan opened its door welcoming Chinese tourists. Most of the Chinese tourists are coming for Taiwan’s beautiful nature and for Taiwan’s unique street gourmet, but recently, there’s a large amount of tourists are coming to experience Taiwan’s health check-up medical services. The visiting number is now rapidly growing, one of Japan’s biggest public broadcasting organizations, NHK, even reported this new trend in the daily news.

Since Taiwan eased the restriction on travelers from China last July, there have been accumulated 500-thousand Chinese visitors in Taiwan.

This day, there are another 30 visitors from Beijing coming to Taipei. Besides visiting Taipei 101 and National Palace Museum, they have another purpose. Other than sightseeing, they planned to come to Taiwan’s hospital for the PET health check-up. This 5-day-4-night health check-up tour costs about 2000 U.S. dollars, but there are still a lot of Chinese tourists joined the tour. Right after the health check-up, the tour went to a SPA centre to continue their relaxing trip in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s medical equipment and technology are much more developed than China, plus there is no language barrier, this had successfully encouraged Chinese tourists forsake South Korea or Japan to come to Taiwan. NHK’s report has also helped Taiwan’s tourism market start broaden its international market and open up new business opportunities.
