Frustrated patients travel to Bulgaria for dental treatment

21-Jul-2008

More and more people are travelling to Bulgaria for dental treatment, having failed to secure an NHS dentist at home, it has been claimed.

According to Scarborough MP Robert Goodwill, dental prices have been rising in the UK and this is partly the result of a shortage of NHS dentists.

"British people are being forced into travelling further and further because of the non-availability of NHS treatment in the UK. It's quite shameful," the Tory MP told the Yorkshire Post.

However, the trend has been welcomed by businessman Don Robinson, who has launched Bulgaria package deals specifically designed for dental tourists.

According to the report, a patient can travel to Bulgaria for four days and receive £5,000 of dental treatment for a mere £2,500.

Mr Robinson said that "the normal person cannot afford dentistry in this country any more" and suggested that Bulgaria might become "the new India" for dental tourism.
