A new holistic tourism centre is to be set up in the Indian state of Kerala, offering medical treatment and visitor attractions, it has been reported.
Tourism minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan revealed that the new centre would combine a range of different types of tourism, including ayurveda, farm tourism and medical tourism.
The centre should provide an exciting new destination for the thousands of foreigners who travel to India for cosmetic surgery, dental treatment, knee surgery, hip replacement surgery and obesity treatment.
Mr Balakrishnan told the India Times that the government would "take concrete steps for promoting medical tourism in a big way".
"There is already a steady inflow of foreign tourists for medical needs. Five years from now, we expect an increase of 100,000 medical tourists every year," he revealed.
India offers some of the best medical treatment in the world and the nation's medical tourism industry is growing by nearly a third every year as a result of this reputation.
