Koreans prepare for interviews with cosmetic surgery

1-May-2007

Young Koreans are increasingly going under the knife in a bid to boost their chances of success at job interviews, it has been revealed.

According to Kim Sung-Min, chief cosmetic surgeon at Imi Plastic Surgery in Seoul, the clinic has been inundated with enquiries this year.

"Nearly 30 per cent of our patients want to change their looks for job interviews," he told the Independent.

"Some come during their penultimate year at university, because they want their face to look natural by the time they start job hunting."

The surgeon revealed that the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures at the moment involve the ears, eyes, nose and eye brows, while many also request botox injections in their vocal chords to keep their voices steady during interviews.

Although Korea is not yet a particularly popular destination for British patients seeking treatment abroad, the Korean government has initiated measures to promote medical tourism and boost the country's profile overseas.
