What is it?

Thalassotherapy is the therapeutic use of seawater and marine by-products that are rich in minerals and vitamins to restore balance to the body and involves an integrated plan for therapy, prevention and health promotion.

How does it work?

Treatment is implemented under medical care and is offered where the climate has an immediate effect and the sea can be used for bathing in natural waters.  The pores of the skin expand to allow the passage of precious minerals from the seawater into the blood system and treatments provide relaxation, help fight stress, slow down the physical signs of ageing, reduce the appearance of cellulite and regenerate the body. Treatment usually includes the use of mud or algae in different applications.

What does it treat?

Thalassotherapy is used for the medical treatment of chronic illnesses such as respiratory or skin diseases as well as prophylaxis in healthy individuals.  Thalassotherapy is believed to be beneficial for circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, post traumatic disorders, skin problems such as atopic dermatitis and chronic inflammation such as rheumatic arthritis.  Various types of seaweed have antibiotic, antibacterial and antiviral powers, which boosts the effectiveness of the immune system and improves quality of sleep.
