An expert team

All the health professionals at Clinica Sandalf have completed their specialist medical training either in Germany or the UK and are fluent English speakers. Led by highly trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Alf Neuhaus, the team includes an internal medicine specialist, three physiotherapists, an osteopath, a masseur, a consultant ophthalmologist and a counsellor.

Specialist treatment

Orthopaedic surgery

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Alf Neuhaus provides treatment for a wide range of orthopaedic conditions including neck and back pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, carpal tunnel syndrome and bunions. Conservative and minor surgical treatments are carried out in the clinic, whilst surgical treatments such as arthroscopy, joint replacement, spinal surgery, and more advanced hand and foot procedures are performed at a modern, well-equipped private hospital ten minutes’ drive from Clinica Sandalf.

Dr Neuhaus works in close conjunction with his colleagues at the clinic to provide an integrated approach to the treatment of orthopaedic conditions. Where surgical treatment is required, he and his physiotherapists visit the hospital every day to ensure the best possible recovery and rehabilitation.

Trauma surgery

Having received his training in various orthopaedic and trauma departments in the UK, Dr Neuhaus is highly experienced in the treatment of orthopaedic injuries including muscle sprains, tendon and ligament injuries, and fractures.

The excellent facilities at Clinica Sandalf mean that an injury can be quickly assessed and conservative treatment initiated. If an MRI scan is indicated, this can be arranged immediately at a nearby private hospital. Where initial investigations reveal that surgery is necessary, Dr Neuhaus works with the private hospital to provide the quickest possible admission and treatment, with the procedure often being performed on the same day even at night or on weekends/bank holidays. In urgent cases, Dr Neuhaus may arrange to meet the patient at the hospital.

Physiotherapy

Adopting a holistic physiotherapeutic approach, Clinica Sandalf’s physiotherapists David Peromingo and Sandra Vincenti have many years’ experience in treating joint problems, neck and back issues and soft tissue pathologies. Treatment options at the clinic include full patient assessment, gait training, joint mobilisation and post-operative rehabilitation.

Medical massage and lymph drainage are also available from physiotherapist Tamara Abramovich. These techniques both play a useful role in the mobilisation of scar tissue, muscle contracture and joint stiffness, as well as in the reduction of post-operative swelling.

Osteopathy

Both of the osteopaths in the Clinica Sandalf team were trained in the UK. They use osteopathic approaches and cranio-sacral therapy options to treat muscular problems, joint stiffness, neck and back pain and muscle contractures. Their extensive experience of applying either manipulation or mobilisation techniques is supported by the use of digital radiographic imaging.

Ophthalmology

Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr Mariano Salvaterra offers standard eye tests and assessments at Clinica Sandalf, including those to identify glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He also provides a range of eye surgery procedures such as cataract removal and intraocular lens implantation and presbyopia surgery at a local private clinic.

Counselling

Clinica Sandalf’s counsellor Christie Nicholas offers advice and guidance to those needing emotional support while going through a difficult phase in the lives. UK-trained in counselling and psychotherapy, she employs a combination of listening and exercises, sometimes using Art therapy and The Journey work.

International patients

Situated on Spain’s Costa de Sol, Clinica Sandalf is an ideal destination for overseas patients seeking high quality orthopaedic treatment, combining the highest standards of procedure, materials and prostheses with a warm climate and relaxed environment in which to recuperate. The clinic has virtually no waiting times and offers surgical procedures such as hip and knee replacement at prices significantly lower than in Northern Europe, North America and Canada.

Clinica Sandalf accepts all international health insurance as well as welcoming patients who wish to self-pay for treatment.
