Laser eye surgery, or laser vision correction, involves using a laser to reshape the front surface of the eye (cornea) so that light travelling through it is properly focused onto the retina at the back of the eye. It can correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.
Vision can also be corrected by means of clear implantable lenses (Phakic IOLs), which are an alternative to laser eye surgery for correcting moderate to severe myopia (short-sightedness).
The goal of laser eye surgery is to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses. At least 99% of laser eye surgery patients reach the legal driving standard without glasses or contacts. At MELC, 99% of their patients achieve even better results: 6/6 (20/20) vision.
