PROFILE

IVI was the first infertility clinic in Spain specialising in assisted reproduction techniques. It is made up of a total of 20 infertility clinics around Spain, Europe and the Americas. IVI clinics offer infertility treatments such as Artificial Insemination, In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF / ICSI), Ovum donation and Preimplantational Genetic Diagnosis (PGD).

IVI was founded in the city of Valencia in 1990 and today the group is a world leader in reproductive medicine. Since opening its first clinic, more than 50,000 children have been born thanks to techniques in assisted reproduction practiced throughout the IVI network. Today IVI is a world leader both in the scientific community and for all couples unable to have children without assistance.

Why go to IVI for infertility treatment in Spain?

With 20 infertility clinics across Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Portugal and Turkey, IVI has secured its position as a pioneer in internationalising medical professionalism. IVI has pioneered numerous reproductive methods, including those that enable the birth of babies who are free of hereditary diseases carried by their parents. IVI has one of the highest pregnancy rates in Europe. 55% of couples who go to IVI with fertility problems are successful in having a baby. If you are a woman or a couple with problems in achieving pregnancy and you have decided to see a specialist, why not choose IVI? They provide a range of useful facilities such as reduced waiting times, a counselling service that is available in all clinics, and clear and reliable information.

Infertility treatments and services offered by IVI

A complete analysis is performed on the sterile couple, following a study protocol aimed at discarding the most common problems in both the woman and the man. If the couples problems are not solved using medical or surgical treatment, IVI turn to Assisted Reproduction.

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF/ICSI)

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVI) involves uniting the ovum (egg) with the spermatozoid inside glass in vitro in order to achieve a number of embryos to transfer to the mothers uterus. This technique is carried out in a laboratory with the latest technology and is used when previous kinds of treatment such as Artificial Insemination have failed.

The insemination of oocytes can be carried out by means of the conventional IVF technique or by Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). The latter is recommended in cases of severe masculine sterility, previous fertilisation failures with IVF, previous Artificial Insemination treatment failures, or situations in which we have a limited number of oocytes available.

Sperm bank available at IVI

For over a decade the IVI Sperm Bank has been helping fulfil the wishes of women and couples who want to have children, thanks to the use of sperm from a donor. The International Sperm Bank has the necessary licences to carry out its activity, and has highly qualified staff to perform the most advanced techniques in the field of assisted reproduction.

What advantages are there in using the ISB?

  • Professional, clinical, educational, and research experience
  • A long list of donors
  • Excellent quality of samples
  • Maximum safety during transportation
  • The best international health care

Egg donation

At IVI they are well equipped for egg donation: they have created the largest network of donors in the country, through a programme of quality care both for the donor and the recipient. That is why they are one of the worlds leading clinics in terms of the number of treatments. In 2008 they undertook 21,046 assisted reproduction treatments - 24.5% of reported cycles in Spain and 50.6% of all egg donation treatments given in Spain. Ovum donation involves the resulting embryo from an anonymous oocyte being transferred to the receptor.

Four groups of women are candidates for the oocyte donation programme:

  • Women with ovarian failure without spontaneous menstruation
  • Women whose ovaries function but who cannot use their own oocytes
  • Women with repeated in vitro fertilisation failure
  • Other cases where egg donation is advisable

Other infertility treatments and services offered by IVI

  • Artificial Insemination
  • Preimplantational Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

Clinical success rates for infertility treatment in Spain

IVI has one of the highest pregnancy rates in Europe. 55% of couples who go to IVI with fertility problems are successful in having a baby.

These figures are achieved by putting together all the methods of assisted reproduction offered by IVI clinics. Methods such as egg donation, IVF or microinjection of sperm together provide a conception success rate of almost 90% over four attempts. Most of them are single pregnancies.

The ongoing work conducted by IVI's scientists and the incorporation of all the highly specialised techniques allow them to improve their conception rates year after year.
