Services available

Assisted Reproduction

  • Fertility consultation: Consultation is always the most important step in diagnosing the cause of infertility. Following a thorough discussion of a couple’s medical and fertility history, fertility tests and ultrasound are carried out and a treatment plan is formulated based on the results.
  • Sex selection: With sex selection it is now possible for couples to get the baby girl or boy that they have wished for.
  • Egg freezing: Egg freezing allows women to preserve their fertility for a longer time, either for social reasons or for medical reasons such as to receive cancer treatment.
  • IVF/ICSI: In-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) are considered the most successful treatment options for couples seeking to conceive. ICSI is particularly effective in cases of male infertility and is performed as part of IVF.
  • Intra-uterine insemination (IUI): IUI can be a quick, simple way to achieve pregnancy if certain medical parameters are met.
  • Ovulation induction: Ovulation induction uses medication to stimulate an egg release in women who have irregular or absent ovulation, providing the chance to conceive naturally.
  • Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS): Also known as PGT-A, preimplantation genetic screening involves checking embryos created by IVF or ICSI for abnormalities in the number of chromosomes. Only embryos without chromosomal abnormalities are selected to be placed into the womb. PGS is particularly recommended for women who have experienced recurrent IVF failure or unexplained recurrent miscarriages and older women.
  • Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD): Also known as PGT-M, preimplantation genetic diagnosis can be used with IVF to test for over 600 specific inherited genetic conditions, including cystic fibrosis, alpha thalassaemia, haemophilia A and B, and Huntington disease. Patients then have the choice of selecting only healthy embryos to place into the womb, thus avoiding passing on a serious inherited disease to their children.
  • Embryo freezing: Couples undergoing IVF or ICSI can choose to have their embryos frozen and safely stored for future use.
  • Semen analysis: One of the first steps of diagnosing the cause of infertility is to test the husband’s semen to evaluate the quality and quantity of the sperm as well as the fluid that contains them.
  • Testicular sperm extraction: Men who have no sperm in their semen (azoospermia) may be able to have treatment to collect sperm surgically from their testicles.

Gynaecology and gynaecological surgery

  • Diagnostic and operative laparoscopy: Also known as keyhole surgery, laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen and pelvis without making a large incision in the skin. The technique can be used to diagnose the cause of infertility and pelvic pain and to test fallopian tube patency. It can also be used to treat gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts.
  • Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy: Hysteroscopy is a procedure to examine the inside of the womb (uterus). It can be done before IVF to diagnose medical conditions such as fibroids, polyps and uterine septum. Many operations can also be performed using hysteroscopy including fibroid removal (myomectomy), IUD removal and uterine septum removal.
  • Tubal ligation: Tubal ligation is a procedure performed for couples who don’t want any further pregnancies for either social or medical reasons.
  • Treatment of endometriosis: Endometriosis can have a significant effect on a woman’s quality of life. Dr Shamel’s clinic offers either medical or surgical treatment depending on each individual case.
  • Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Dr Shamel’s clinic offers medical treatment for PCOS to meet the needs of the individual (infertility, menstrual disturbances or abnormal hair growth)
  • Treatment of fibroids: Dr Shamel’s clinic offers surgical treatment of fibroids using open surgery, laparoscopic surgery or hysteroscopic surgery.
  • Dilatation and curettage (D&C): In the unfortunate event of an incomplete miscarriage, D&C is used to surgically remove any remaining tissue. It can also be used in cases of missed (or silent) miscarriage.

Pregnancy and obstetrics

  • Antenatal care: Dr Shamel’s clinic provides comprehensive antenatal support including ultrasound scans and any tests required during the pregnancy.
  • Normal vaginal delivery: Dr Shamel’s clinic provides normal vaginal delivery in a healthy environment with meticulous medical follow up for mother and baby. Mothers are offered a pain free experience to help them regain their normal life as soon as possible after delivery.
  • Caesarian section: Caesarian section is an option at the clinic subject to certain medical conditions.
