PROFILE

Dr Dimitrios Moraitis is a highly qualified and experienced surgeon whose clinical interests include: endocrinology and oncology of the head and neck, thyroid, parathyroid and salivary glands, oral cavity, larynx and pharynx, and melanomas.

Dr Dimitrios Moraitis MD, PhD, FRCS, FACS was born in Athens. He graduated from the Medical School of Athens University and completed his training in General Surgery at New York Medical College, US.

He then specialised and worked in the department of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

He is an active member of the American Head and Neck Society.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and fellow in Otorhinolaryngology at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the UK.

Dr Moraitis’ clinical interests are focused in endocrinology and oncology of the head and neck. More particularly in surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, salivary glands (parotid, submandibular and small salivary glands), oral cavity, larynx and hypopharynx. He also specialises in surgery of skin cancer, including melanomas. He recently developed a new technique in minimally invasive surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, and he develops robotically assisted surgical procedures for tumours of the oral cavity and oropharynx.

Dr Moraitis works closely with a team of high-level associates who specialise in plastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology, neurosurgery, radiation oncology and together they offer multi-disciplinary care for head and neck tumours.

Dr Moraitis has published widely in international journals and is the keynote speaker at many international conferences relating to the field of Head-Neck Oncology.

Dr Moraitis continues its research activities through the Greek Society of Molecular Cancer Research, where he is a founding member and board member.

Endocrine surgery

Dr Moraitis treats benign and malignant diseases of the head and neck, usually relating to oral malignancies, larynx, parotid and other salivary glands and the skin.

Skull base surgery

Skull base surgery includes the eye sockets, ears, nose and sinuses and all of the connections between the brain and the rest of the body, including the blood supply to the brain. Conditions treated include tumours, infections, congenital abnormalities and other bone disorders such as fibrous dysplasia.
