Clinical interests in cosmetic surgery

Rhinoplasty

Each year half a million people who want to improve the appearance and function of the nose visit a specialist. It is a fact that nothing plays a more important role in the appearance of the face than the size and shape of the nose. It is the most crucial element of the face, as it is the vertical axis around which the rest of the features are placed, and even a slight change can alter the appearance of the individual.

Dr Skouras states: “My philosophy in rhinoplasty is the creation of a natural-looking nose, which functions and breathes normally.”

His main area of expertise is functional rhinoplasty, and in 2000 he established a surgical team that performs over 700 rhinoplasties per year. A large number of patients visit Dr Skouras for revision rhinoplasty after unsuccessful previous surgeries.

By applying the following specific surgical techniques he has the ability to address even the most complex cases of revision rhinoplasty:

  • Open rhinoplasty
  • Utilisation of transplants for correction of the dorsum and the apex of the nose
  • Restoration of the nasal valve with the 'Butterfly' technique

Otoplasty

Cosmetic ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to reduce the size of large ears or pin back ears that protrude too far from the head. The deformity does not affect the hearing of the person, but substantially affects his or her psychological well-being.

Protruding ears appear in 5% of the population and are due to hereditary factors. They are seen immediately after birth, their shape and position does not change with time, while their final size is acquired at the age of 5-6 years. It is therefore proper for children to be operared on when they are 5-6 years old, before starting school, in order to avoid comments that could irreparably injure their self esteem. Adults can be operated on at any age.
