An acoustic Neuroma is a small tumour on or around the auditory nerve. They have a slow growth and cause a range of symptoms, such has hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus and numbness or pain in the facial region. Most acoustic neuromas are treated by surgery under general anaesthetic, requiring a few days in hospital and six to twelve weeks of recovery. Most tumours can be removed in their entirety, however in the minority of cases (5%) additional radiotherapy will be required to ensure remission.
