Clinica Dr Scheib

Palma, Spain

The Instituto Dr Scheib specialises in psychosomatic medicine and was established in Majorca over 20 years ago by Dr Mario Scheib. The clinic is located within a beautiful setting in Clinica Luz in Palma, Majorca and is now also available in Munich and Berlin as well as over Skype. The clinic itself boasts an international team of experienced and multi-lingual consultants and psychotherapists who specialise in intensive, personalised short-term therapy with results being seen in as little as two to three weeks. Instituto Dr Scheib has pioneered the use of ketamine therapy which is used alongside other therapies such as rTMS, hypnosis, neurofeedback and psychotherapy and is one of the first clinics globally to offer ketamine treatment. This unique method has shown more stable and long-term results than ketamine infusions on their own to treat illnesses such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction as well as post traumatic stress disorder. Treatment at the clinic usually lasts less than three weeks and can be carried out either as an in-patient, day-patient or as an outpatient depending on the complexity of the symptoms and treatment required. Places are also available for immediate emergency therapy which is carried out in a comfortable and discrete atmosphere. How does treatment work? All patients will initially start with a thorough examination where you will be asked about your medical history and current situation. From here further investigations will be carried out and we will then plan your personalised therapy with you with most patients being taken care of by two therapists. Patients have the option whether to stay at the clinic during their treatment with private rooms available that offer balconies overlooking the harbour and Palma or to choose one of the many hotels that are available within a five minute walk from the clinic. In between treatments you are free to take advantage of the different activities available on the island, such as a massage, game of tennis, golf or watersports. What is Ketamine Therapy? This is a relatively new procedure which is used successfully to treat depression, posttraumatic stress disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Ketamine has proven itself to be an effective antidepressant and has the advantage of working immediately reducing suicidal thoughts on the same day as treatment. During therapy, patients are examined thoroughly and then ketamine is administered in small doses with the infusion taking around 40 minutes. Side effects from the treatment are minimal and any that occur disappear as soon as the infusion has ended. Possible side effects are a feeling of warmth and dizziness as if slightly drunk. The majority of patients report clearer thinking and an improved mood after the first infusion with the effect being more pronounced the following day. These effects can last from a few weeks sometimes up to a number of years. To achieve a durable effect, ketamine therapy should be combined with intensive psychotherapy, neurofeedback or transcranial magnetic stimulation. Transcranial magnetic stimulation is an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure for the treatment of depression, OCD and other disorders. It involves stimulating parts of the brain with strong, pulsating magnetic fields. The treatment takes about 20 minutes twice a day. A lasting effect is achieved after 10 days of treatment. What can Clinica Dr Scheib help with? • ADHD • Addiction • Alzheimers • Anxiety disorders • Burnout syndrome • Cancer (in cooperation with oncologists; specially treatment of pain and side effects of chemotherapy) • Cardio-vascular diseases • Depression • Eating disorders • Obsessive-compulsive disorder • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder • Sleep Disorders
