Capio Santé: Elective surgery in Lyon, Toulouse, La Rochelle, Paris, Bayonne-Biarritz, Avignon, Besançon … in France

Capio

Capio Santé, French subsidiary of the European Healthcare leader Capio, provide a broad range of elective surgery treatments. Capio in France have always welcomed international patients attracted by the expertise of renowned medical teams, the exceptionally high quality healthcare, competitive prices (private hospitals are usually less expensive than public hospitals), accessibility and the overall excellence of the French healthcare system (ranked n°1 among 190 countries by the World Health Organization).  Strengthened by this experience, Capio Santé have recently decided to develop this activity more specifically.

Why go to Capio Santé in France for surgery?

Capio Santé provides the highest quality healthcare and patient security for a price that compares very favourably with other Western countries.

  • Capio Santé private hospitals in France operate with a shared set of values: patient satisfaction, trust, respect and empathy, innovation and social responsibility

  • Experienced and highly qualified surgeons dedicated to Capio Santé with demonstrated expertise recognised by their peers, which enables Capio to provide an all inclusive price regardless of whether any complications dictate a longer stay at the hospital

  • A special emphasis on performing minimally invasive surgery and adopting innovative techniques - in 1987 Clinique de la Sauvegarde in Lyon saw the first coeliosurgery worldwide to remove a patient's gall bladder

  • Patients may select their surgeon from a list of selected on-site specialists (no external consultants coming once in a while)

  • State-of-the-art medical equipment allowing cutting edge diagnostics and minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy, single incision laparoscopy, Da Vinci robot-assisted surgery, stereotaxy, thoracoscopy...)

  • Patient security, with intensive care units and resuscitation units in most hospitals, as well as on-site anaesthetists 24/24 and 7/7

  • A comprehensive quality and risk management policy, based on best practices and accreditations, coordinated centrally at Capio Group level. Each team is responsible for the complete care process, from the acquisition of implants and medical devices, up until the patient is discharged, with a special focus on the prevention and control of infections

  • Patients’ requests are addressed by a dedicated Capio coordinator, who speaks English and French, and who will advise you on the possible destinations available for a specific surgery

  • Pleasant and safe locations, close to international airports, which is a plus when it comes to stay about a week with a relative or close friend.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Clinics involved also have MRSA levels far below national average. They are evaluated yearly by the French Health Ministry and have received the grade 'A' for their performance in terms of Infection Prevention & Hygiene.

Surgery procedures offered by Capio Santé in France

Most of Capio clinics in France are oriented towards complex surgeries such as cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, digestive and bariatric surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urologic surgery, gynaecologic surgery, and use state-of-the-art equipment to perform medical interventions in the safest possible environment. Despite the complexity of many procedures, Capio and its surgical teams are constantly seeking to use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible, to allow for faster recovery, less pain and reduced length of stay.

In the Digestive area procedures include:

Gastrointestinal surgery, which focuses on the gastrointestinal tract and can include operations on the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon, pancreas, liver, gall bladder.

Abdominal wall surgery, mainly hernia repairs. Inguinal hernia repairs are usually handled on an outpatient basis. Other hernias (incisional or umbilical) can require a few days stay at the hospital. All are performed using low invasive techniques and mesh implant.

Capio Sante world class surgeons and healthcare services

Colorectal surgery, which focuses on the anus (mostly haemorrhoids, rectum and colon) that can result from disease such as bowel cancer, anal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulitis. removal is a commonplace colorectal surgery, which can be handled on an outpatient basis or with a few days hospitalization depending on the disorder severity and the choice of surgical technique.

Obesity surgery encompasses gastric bypass the most common type of weight loss surgery, and lap band surgery which is among the least invasive surgical weight loss treatments. This procedure is commonly performed on a day care basis.

In the Orthopaedic area procedures include:

Hip surgery, mainly Total Hip Replacements, which require about a 4-day stay at the clinic after surgery.

Knee surgery, mainly Total Knee Replacements, which require about a 5-day stay at the clinic after surgery.

In both cases, a few extra day rest and physiotherapy at a Partner’s are necessary to improve the joint mobility and secure the outcome of your surgery. The specific length of stay depends on your health condition and is on average around one week.

Other lower limb orthopaedic surgeries such as arthroscopy, foot or ankle surgery. Procedures can be handled on a daycare basis or with a few day-stay, depending on their complexity.

They are all registered at the Board of Doctors and accredited for general digestive surgery practice. In total they perform over 2,500 procedures per year, the majority of them being laparoscopic / minimally invasive surgeries. They are used to welcoming foreign patients, as illustrated in this patient story from Sam, posted on Treatment Abroad.

Minimally invasive techniques such as coelioscopy, single-incision coelioscopy, doppler assisted surgery, ultrasound or thermofusion blades are currently used by the team.

Focus on the orthopaedic surgery team

The Team of 3 surgeons has been recognized as an 'Excellence & Training Center' by the European Society of Sport Knee and Arthroscopy (Teaching Center ESSKA) since 2006. This status was re-established in 2010.
