Highly experienced fertility specialists in Spain

With 20 years' experience in the field of assisted reproduction and a large, highly-skilled team of experts in fertility care, Salus XXI can help its patients to realise their dream and become parents.

Due to the strict laws and regulations in force in many countries within the European Community, and thanks to the flexibility of Spanish legislation, more and more couples are now choosing to come to Spain for fertility treatment.

Fully aware of these issues, Salus XXI's International Patient Care Team now offers the services of personal assistants who can help patients at this crucial time in their lives, providing them with friendly, personalised attention.

Salus XXI's English-speaking personal assistants are very aware of what the patients are going through. They understand their concerns and fears, and can therefore offer them the best possible attention and psychological support in order to ensure the treatment is a pleasant and positive experience.

Infertility treatments available at Salus XXI in Barcelona

Diagnosis of female infertility

Patients go through an initial phase in which they are given a series of tests to guide the gynaecologist in the diagnosis of the causes of infertility.

Diagnosis of male infertility

Between 15 and 20% of couples of a reproductive age have problems in becoming pregnant. Men will undergo special analysis of their semen, which looks at the motility, concentration and morphology of the sperms.

Ovulation induction

A high percentage of patients have aberrations in ovulation, whether due to irregular ovulation (oligomenorrhea) or an absence of it (amenorrhoea). By inducing ovulation through the administration of hormones, the aim is to correct these aberrations and achieve monthly ovulation.

Artificial insemination

Artificial insemination is one of the simplest assisted human reproductive techniques. it consists of introducing a sample of previously prepared semen into the uterus to facilitate the arrival of the sperm to the egg.

In vitro fertilisation (IVF)

IVF is a human assisted reproduction technique, in which oocytes (eggs) are retrieved from a woman's ovaries and then fertilised by sperm outside the patient's body. The embryos obtained are incubated in a laboratory. The best embryos are then selected and transferred directly into the patient's uterus.

Testicular sperm extraction (TESE)

Depending on the quality of the man's sperm, the most suitable assisted reproductive technology is determined for each case; from insemination, a technique that requires minimum levels of concentration and sperm motility, to ICSI-TESE in patients with azoospermia (complete absence of sperm in the semen).

Egg donation

The egg donation procedure consists of carrying out an IVF cycle with eggs from an anonymous donor and semen from the husband. On the day that the follicular puncture is carried out on the donor and the eggs are in the laboratory, the husband is asked for a sample of semen, and two days later the embryos are transferred to the recipient.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)

PGD is one of the most recent techniques in assisted human reproductive technology. This technique allows the detection of chromosome anomalies in the pre-embryo before being transferred to the uterine cavity. This allows pre-embryos to be selected without having to wait for the pre-natal diagnosis during pregnancy, thus avoiding abortions.
