  • Infertility and sterility – are they the same thing?
    Sterility is defined as when a couple has not managed to conceive after a year of sexual intercourse without birth control (primary sterility), or if after a first baby, they do not manage a second pregnancy (secondary sterility).

    Infertility is when the couple has no problem conceiving but has suffered more than two consecutive miscarriages without reaching full term (primary infertility), or if after a first child they do not manage to reach a full second gestation (secondary infertility).

  • At what stage should one begin to think of a possible fertility problem?
    If after a year of regular sexual intercourse without contraception there is no sign of pregnancy, it’s time to start thinking about visiting a doctor or a Centre for Assisted Reproduction. This period of time should be less when the patient is over 35 years old.
