In March this year, the European Parliament adopted the “European Directive on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare”. This EU legislation clarifies the rights of EU citizens to seek treatment in other EU member states and may encourage more patients to consider travelling for treatment in another European country.

At Treatment Abroad, we have developed the first guide to patients’ rights to treatment in the European Union. The first edition of this guide is aimed at UK patients. It will help patients to understand:


  • What their rights are under the new Directive.

  • How they can go about exercising those rights.

  • Where they can go for advice and guidance
